It’s the height of summer in the land of the midnight sun and the arctic landscape transforms to a beautiful summer paradise awashed with sunshine, and with so much daylight, not to mention incredible summer weather, this really is the time to get out there, explore and experience what this less-visited and magical part of Sweden has to offer. Not to mention that Sweden is one of the most LGBT-progressive countries in the world, celebrating five years of full gay marriage this year – and even in its provinces, there is a friendly, live and let live attitude. It really is the perfect getaway from the gay city life. So whether you’re with a group of friends off on an adventure, or loved-up and ready to propose, or celebrating your honeymoon, or even a modern family looking for somewhere really unique, take it from us, you’re going to fall in love with Swedish Lapland. Swedish Lapland is a getaway that will move your mind. You can escape the rat race and join our Arctic life all year round, with each season providing something different.

The Great Outdoors:

You may perceive Swedish Lapland to be something straight out of a scene from Frozen. Fair enough, because in the winter, it is a magical icy wonderland, but in the summer it couldn’t be more different. Picture the setting, beautiful Swedish countryside, glowing landscapes and home to some incredible outdoor activities. Whatever your flavour – pick from sea kayaking, hiking, camping, canoeing, rafting or fishing, we have it all. Jopikgården on the Lulea Archipelago is a breathtaking base to explore and get stuck in.

The Treehotel is a magnificent and once-(maybe twice)-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ve probably seen it on countless Pinterest boards, bucket lists and glossy travel magazines. Set in a pristine forest, in the charming village of Harads, luxury pods appear in the trees like something from a movie – each with its own distinct design that we guarantee will make you gasp out loud. It is just one of those things you have to see to believe. They have also recently opened the Dragonfly, the world’s largest treehouse, serving up locally produced format food. Whilst it’s still like going back into mum’s house and enjoying a home-cooked meal after playing in the tree-house all day, there is something unworldly about it.

A summer BBQ, but not as you know it:

Swedish Lapland is a foodie’s paradise – with locally sourced and prepared culinary delights that will surprise even the most gourmet’d city-slicker. Fresh arctic char, reindeer, elk, bleak roe caviar and cloudberries will whet your appetite just to start. And since the days of the Vikings, the Swedes have been known to be well-travelled, so you’ll see some tasty global influences creeping in with food artistry that could challenge London.

The late legendary Hollywood movie star Greta Garbo’s niece spent several years searching for the proper burial place for her aunt. She found it at the Woodland Cemetery (Skogskyrkogården) in Stockholm.

If you are a true Greta Garbo fan, make sure you take this tour, and follow in the “footsteps of Garbo”.

The Woodland Cemetery is place of sublime beauty and poetry. Created over a period of a quarter century (1915-1940) on about 250 acres of pine-covered boulder ridge under the direction of the famous modernist architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz.

Considered one of the most important works of the modernists, it evokes a Nordic philosophy on nature, life, and death. There are also a number of beautiful chapels and a visitors center. The Woodland Cemetery is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994.

Around the turn of the millennium, the creativity of the Swedish fashion scene seemed to explode. The exhibition Swedish Fashion: 2000–2015 at Sven-Harry’s Art Museum in Stockholm explores the rapid aesthetic and conceptual transformation that took place during this eventful period.

What were the dominating silhouettes, colours, materials, techniques and garment cuts? Are there design elements from these years that could be regarded as specifically Swedish? And why does denim play such a prominent role in contemporary Swedish fashion?

The exhibition Swedish Fashion: 2000–2015 fills the entire exhibition space at Sven-Harry’s Art Museum. Visitors can enjoy a large number of unique key garments, sketches, photos and films by and with the fashion designers who changed the scene. Acne Studios, Cheap Monday, Ann-Sofie Back, Lovisa Burfitt, Rodebjer, Whyred, Carin Wester, Sandra Backlund, Helena Hörstedt, Patrik Söderstam, Martin Bergström, Bea Szenfeld, Ida Sjöstedt, Tiger of Sweden, V Ave Shoe Repair, Nakkna, Dagmar, AltewaiSaome and Ida Klamborn are a few of the labels represented in the exhibition.

Swedish Fashion: 2000-2015 charts the triumps, the phenomena and the tendencies that shaped the image of Swedish fashion in the first 15 years of the new millennium. The collection shown is unique and was made possible by the dedication of the Swedish fashion scene.

The ultimate re-imagination of Swedish history is a beautiful private house and garden in the center of Stockholm that has been created for people looking for something more personal than the luxury hotel.

With twelve rooms, Ett Hem offers discerning guests comfortable interiors and bedrooms full of summery whiteness of light. Outdoors, the courtyard garden is a room as important as those inside. It’s a secret city wilderness that is the perfect place for summer breakfasts or winding down over a chilled bottle of wine. Staying at Ett Hem is like being a house guest in somebody’s private home. Guests are welcome to do as they please but will be taken care of down to every last detail. Ett Hem is there for you to use as if it were your own house.

Everyone is talking about Robyn and Royksopp right now. But as fabulous as they are, they are just the tip of the iceberg of the Swedish music scene. Sweden produces some of the best international music in the world, and ALL those people pass through Stockholm. What can we say? It's just such an inspiring place – even Spotify (with their fabulous gay ad) was founded and developed here and true to form, took the world by storm.

The starting point for any music lover to Stockholm would of course be the Swedish Music Hall of Fame – which is also home to the ABBA (there, we said it!) Museum –  but there is a lot more to music in Stockholm than the obvious. There is music, then there's creativity in music...

Katja & Gunn

This month's Stockholm Voices (a new, exciting thing we're doing on our blog at featuring the inside track to the city via its LGBTQ people) are Stockholmers Katja Gustafsson and Gunn Lundemo – who are among the biggest club DJs on Sweden’s lesbian scene. They are behind Club KG, Club X and the DJ duo Swedish Dyke Vibes. Now they’re making waves with the newly formed international DJ trio 3sum, with L-word star Daniela Sea. We asked Katja and Gunn about everything from where they find inspiration to what not to miss in Stockholm and you can read the whole interview on the blog.

The Royal Opera House is at it again

Slightly left-field, but still music related is the Swedish Royal Opera - they're at it again! If you’ve watched the music video for Lady Gaga’s G.U.Y. you’ve probably noticed the fantastic paper creations worn in the video. The paper creations are made by none other than Swedish designer Bea Szenfeld whose spring collection of ‘Haute Papier’ is entirely handmade. Now the Swedish Royal Opera collaborates with the same designer. Bea Szenfeld has dressed 10 of the artists in the spring program at the Royal Opera. The photos are taken by photographer Karolina Henke.

We're going out…

There is some great new news for the Stockholm clubbing scene. From hard house, to pop-tarts, to schlager, Stockholm's gay and lesbian clubs pack them in every weekend and even in the week. Check out these latest openings..

Check out Candy at Le Bon Palais at Barnhusgatan 12 each Friday. Kicking off at 11pm and partying on through to 4am, this clubnight has 3 different dance floors, 4 bars and stage shows featuring local drag celebrities and popular artists. The music varies from RnB, 80s and 90s hits, hit-house and dance. For a local flavor, the basement plays schlager and Europop. They guarantee a “hands in the air party” every night.

Located close to trendy Stureplan at Kungsgatan 15 Wonk is allegedly the place to party it up and have a great time in Stockholm – with sexy bartenders and hosts, good vibes and a totally up for it, good looking crowd. Open Friday and Saturday 22- 03. Two dancefloors, housemusic in the basement with a lot of famous guest djs, Pop, Disco and RnB on the top floor. This place welcomes all genders and orientations.

Fresh on the Stockholm scene is weekly club night Switch, whose philosophy is “Whoever you are, whatever turns you on.” Weekly, every Saturday night, this club believes everyone should be equally welcome, with mixed musical styles for everyone to enjoy. And with mixed music comes a mixed up vibe, with gay guys and lesbian women partying it up together.

Wild Wednesday GLORY

Are you GAY on Wednesdays?

Whether you’re feeling danceable, in the mood for a drink and just wanna hang in the bar or shake it like there’s no tomorrow; GLORY is the place for you! Vocal house and moderns remixes of popular hits in a nice blend with RnB, 80s and 90s booty-shakers, high and low!

Swedish lullabies

Stockholm is so into its music that some of the city's best hotels have a musical story. Starting with The Rival in the hipster district of Soldermalm, you're never far from an impromptu concert of bar-gig. Let alone the fact that the hotel is owned by no one other than Benny Andersson himself. All roads lead to ABBA!

Notes for the editor

Wow Women Dating

After trying many dating websites for gay women and not feeling safe, I decided to create Wow Women Dating. The safety of gay women connecting online is one of my main priorities. I also wanted to create a community run exclusively by gay women who understand how difficult it can be to find genuine friendship or love.

Wow Women is not just a dating website; members can network and connect on a more social-media based platform in many different ways. We offer a safe, private and friendly environment with carefully checked member profiles. We don't accept straight couples, men or sexually explicit images. As an added security feature, we offer each member the benefit of blocking and reporting suspect profiles.

For further information on the guide, an interview with founder Julianne, use of excerpts from the guide, images etc… Or for more on Wow Women Online Lesbian Dating, please contact the Wow Women Media team on

Evolve 2015, a unique gay New Year’s Eve celebration, is more than just a party, it’s a 3-day experience, and will bring men from more than 30 countries to "sin city" Las Vegas. This landmark event takes place December 30, 2014 – January 2, 2015 and promises to be the event of the year, both years! And for those who want to continue the fun, a weekend in West Hollywood, California, one of the hottest gay meccas in the U.S., continues the celebration January 2-4, 2015.

There are so many things that set Evolve apart from any other gay New Year’s Eve event, starting with the location. Over 40 million people visited Las Vegas last year, about 400,000 of them being gay, according to national averages, and that’s just the beginning. For first-time visitors to Las Vegas, there’s always the very pleasant surprise of finding so much more than slot machines and gaming tables. Las Vegas is home to some of the finest dining in the world including restaurants by Joel Robuchon, Guy Savoy, Mario Batali, Nobu Matsuhisa and Michael Mina. There are also amazing stage shows for all tastes such as Cirque du Soleil, Celine Dion and Elton John. And if shopping is your preference, Tiffany, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Gianni Versace are just a few of the exquisite stores the city has to offer. In addition, you’ll find historical wonders of the desert awaiting your visit including The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Red Rock, Valley of Fire, even Mt. Charleston which features snow skiing….yes snow in Las Vegas! Who knew?

Evolve 2015 is unique for many reasons. First, the event takes place over three days and offers activities day and night especially formulated for Evolve 2015 participants. Additionally, Evolve will be promoted globally through gay media and booking agents on six continents, which means the event will truly be international.

The host hotel is the fabulous MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, which was voted one of the best places to work in the U.S. for LGBT employees by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). As a matter of fact, there are more hotels in Las Vegas who have received this designation than any other city in the United States. The MGM Grand recently underwent a $175 million renovation, and offers beautifully appointed guest rooms of 450 sq. ft., with modern design and hi-tech features. The hotel is located at the busiest corner of the Las Vegas Strip and there will be loads of New Year’s Eve excitement right outside the front door. In addition to the newly decorated rooms, the MGM Grand Hotel features dining options for every taste, shopping, entertainment and of course an expansive casino for those who are feeling lucky!

Upon arrival to Las Vegas, transportation is available for the quick ride from the airport to the MGM Grand hotel and the event will officially kick off with a private VIP reception, followed by Zumanity, a seductive twist on reality. Zumanity, the Sensual Side of Cirque du Soleil, makes the provocative playful and the forbidden electrifying! Leave all inhibitions at the door and let loose as this adult-themed production takes you on a sexy thrill ride full of sensational acrobatics and naughty fun. Part burlesque and part cabaret, Zumanity is one Las Vegas show you'll never forget!

After the show, guests will party at the Kick Off Reception at LAX Nightclub, where the DJ will get the party started and rock it to the delight of the crowd. With unrivaled décor, a top-tier sound system and impeccable service, LAX is one of the most talked about clubs in the country. The two-story space is outfitted in rich red leathers and shimmering chandeliers creating a modern and luxurious feel, complete with amenities fit for a king. Sexy go-go boys will get the crowd going at every corner and super special Las Vegas characters will entertain guests in their very unique way.

Day Two will feature a Men’s Fashion Extravaganza with a peek at what’s new in apparel for Spring, accompanied by an exclusive wine reception. After the show guests can shop in the Fashion Show Mall with discounts that have been made available for Evolve guests only.

New Year’s Eve will kick off with another VIP party, before opening up to the main celebration at the Havana Nightclub. This event will welcome local gays as well as those visiting for the end of the year, and give Evolve guests the chance to make even more new acquaintances. Special entertainment has been planned for this party and midnight features a champagne toast to a global countdown video, as well as extravagant city fireworks that can be viewed from the patio of the club.

The festivities will continue at Share Nightclub, the newest gay club in town. If that’s not enough, Day Three offers a slot tournament and a special private showing of Divas Las Vegas. This energetic show starring Las Vegas’ longest running headliner, Frank Marino, features an all-star cast of superstar female impersonators who not only recreate, but almost uncannily duplicate the likenesses of stars ranging from Britney Spears to Cher, Diana Ross to Beyoncé, and even Madonna and Tina Turner have been known to stop by. Recently added were Pop’s newest sensations Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry as well as six of Sin City’s hottest male dancers, which help make this one of Las Vegas’ most spectacular production shows. Marino changes between every act, bringing an international whirlwind of couture to the stage with each spectacular entrance. After the show, KRAVE, the only gay club on the Las Vegas Strip, will welcome guests to party into the wee hours of the morning.
