The charmingly different Swedish city of Gothenburg offers a welcoming world of options for lesbian and gay city-breakers.

Gothenburg, Swedenʼs second largest city, is located on the west coast of the country and is home to ʻWest Prideʼ LGBT festival from 20 May to 2 June 2013. The city also plays host to popular music festival ʻWay Out Westʼ, featuring top international and local artists including Azelia Banks, Grimes, Bat for Lashes and Neil Young & Crazy Horse amongst many others.

From a lesbian and gay standpoint, West Pride, albeit more intimate that its cousin in the capital, is unique that it is based around culture, highlighting the lives of LGBTs in the region in an artistic and cultural context. West Pride aims to create visibility to diversity in expression. Founded in 2007, the event has been growing from strength to strength and culminates in a parade and celebration on its closing Sunday, this year on the 2nd June. West Pride are also holding drop-in-gay-weddings on Saturday 1st June, couples can arrive without registering and be wedded at the festival. The long weekend preceeding is a fantastic time for LGBT people to visit the city.

Gothenburg is set in a truly beautiful landscape, the west-coast archipelago - a hidden gem, very easily reached by a 30-minute tram ride from the city centre. This offers something for those city-breakers who want to experience both urban chic and breathtaking rural beauty in one splendid city – and thereʼs even more for those looking for a versatile, extended holiday.

The city itself offers an array of activities, from fashion, arts and culture and some lip-smackingly amazing food (Gothenburg was appointed the ʻCulinary Capital of Swedenʼ 2012), to a vibrant gay and lesbian scene, including “Swedenʼs best gay club” ʻGossipʼ, voted by the countryʼs own QX magazine. Itʼs youthful, creative population (Gothenburg is home to the countryʼs largest university) are open-minded, welcoming, easy-going and genuinely natured. Gothenburg is the new hive of the creative arts with its upstart indie bands, home grown fashion-labels and alternative arts scene. All this for amazing value, as Lonely Planet recently billed Gothenburg as one of itʼs top 10 for good value.

Stockholm has been style capital for centuries - from "Queer" Queen Kristina in the 17th century, to the golden days of Greta Garbo and not to mention modern day style icons like Robyn, Marcus Schenkenberg and Alexander Skarsgard.

But this summer, Sweden's capital city ups its Fashionista credentials because gay fashion icon Jean Paul Gaultier is coming to Stockholm.

From June 15 - September 22, Stockholm's Arkitekturmuseet will present 'The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: from the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. This is the first international exhibition devoted to the celebrated French couturier, a retrospective of his work. According to Gaultier there are no rules in fashion, everything depends on the limits of one imagination, so it is fitting that that this show makes a stop at Europe's alternative style capital. <http://www.arkitekturmuseet-gaultier.com/>

You just have to look around the city to understand why Stockholm is seriously cool. Home to cult-labels like ACNE and CHEAP MONDAY, through to the multi-national trendsetting duo Hennes and Mauritz (H&M) - whose collaborations with both the pop and style world have you queueing round the block whenever it launches. And shopaholics be ready to be indulged. From designer brands to vintage chic, Stockholm's shopping districts from SoFo to Ostermalm will give you some serious style cred.

And if it's style you want, style you're going to get. A citybreak to gay and lesbian friendly Stockholm is an amazing way to upgrade your weekend. Firstly it's a beautiful city of beautiful people. Secondly, there's so much to offer in way of fashion and culture for the discerning visitor. Thirdly, Stockholm is less expensive than you'd think - a recent Skyscanner survey puts an average weekend break to Stockholm cheaper than Madrid, Paris or Barcelona. All in all, this is THE city to visit this summer.

World Rainbow Hotels (WRH), www.worldrainbowhotels.com, the first and only collection of gay-friendly hotels aimed at consumers and travel agents alike, is expanding into Brazil.

WRH has incorporated several high-profi le hotels in the South American country, complementing an existing collection of close to 1,000 three-to-fi ve stars properties in 129 destinations around the world, all committing to WRH’s high standards of gay friendliness. Amongst WRH’s new partners in Brazil is the luxury brand Fasano Hotels http://www.fasano.com.br/hotelaria, with the inclusion of their four amazing properties – Fasano Rio de Janeiro, Fasano São Paulo, Fasano Boa Vista (a countryside resort a short drive from São Paulo) and Fasano Punta del Este (in Uruguay).

In Sao Paulo, other new member hotels include the recently renovated fi ve-star Tivoli Sao Paulo Mofarrej hotel and Hotel Unique, a reference in modern architecture belonging to the Design Hotels brand.

In Armacao de Buzios, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, WRH features Insolito Boutique Hotel, member of Design Hotels as well. WHR’s expansion into Brazil refl ects the country’s increasingly friendly stance towards gay & lesbians. In May 2011, Brazil’s government recognized civil unions between gays, giving same-sex couples the same property rights as their straight counterparts. Experts predict that a law will be passed to legalize gay marriage, as has already been achieved in neighboring Argentina.

In 2012, TripOutGayTravel.com chose Rio de Janeiro as the best gay destination and the sexiest destination in the world. WRH’s hotel expansion into Brazil has been facilitated by its recent partnership with Sao Paulo Turismo, www.spturis.com, the official tourism authority of Sao Paulo city as well as with the Rio Convention Bureau www.rcvb.com.br
