A SHOW OF DIVERSITY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A SHOW OF DIVERSITY -
THE UK’S BIGGEST DIVERSITY CAREERS EVENT TO TAKE PLACE IN LONDON IN OCTOBER

www.diversitycareersshow.com

Around a hundred of the country’s most influential employers are taking a stand on diversity in the workplace by exhibiting at this year’s Diversity Careers Show - taking place on Friday 21st October 2011 at the New Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden.

The show, now in its third year, seeks to be bigger and better than ever before, with investment banking giant Societe Generale as headline sponsor, supported by private and public sector champions of diversity, Google and the RAF. The show is organised by leading LGBT media and exhibition organisation Square Peg Media in partnership with the renowned gay, lesbian and bisexual charity, Stonewall.

Last year saw over 2,500 candidates - students, graduates and other jobseekers alike attend the show and hundreds of delegates have already registered for this year’s show; as well as repeat exhibitors from last year and fantastic new recruiters looking to meet the show’s pool of talented graduates from diverse backgrounds. The show primarily targets LGBT candidates but welcomes jobseekers from all backgrounds.

We’re pleased to welcome our fantastic exhibitors, from sectors spanning Investment Banking, Law, Retail, Property and Public Sector to this years show. Exhibitors to date include big names like American Express, Asda, Ernst and Young, the FSA, HSBC, London Fire Brigade, National Audit Office, Waitrose and London 2012 among others well known brands and organisations. For a full list of exhibitors, please visit the website.

Managing Director of Square Peg Media, Linda Riley comments:
“This year, we’re focussing on one big show in London, providing our pool of top-quality candidates with the opportunity to meet, network and be inspired by recruiters from some of the most exciting organisations in the UK. We’ve packed this year’s show full of great benefits for candidates and recruiters alike - creating a truly exceptional opportunity for jobseekers from a diverse range of backgrounds to seek employment and helping both candidates and recruiters make the most of diversity in the workplace.”

Deputy Chief Executive of Stonewall, Laura Doughty comments:
“Stonewall is pleased once again to be working in partnership with the Diversity Careers Show. In a more competitive marketplace, employers need to attract and retain the best talent. Lesbian, gay and bisexual jobseekers want to know potential employers will support and develop them to achieve their full potential. Over 600 major employers have joined Stonewall’s good practice programme, 'Diversity Champions', recognising that people really do perform better when they can be themselves. The DCS will feature some top employers who also believe this."

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

“We are absolutely thrilled to have be headline sponsor for the Diversity Careers Show this year. This represents a major recognition of the great progress we have made in recent years across our various diversity initiatives, achieved through the great deal of energy invested by both staff and senior management. We are delighted to be involved in this exciting event which honours equality, diversity and inclusion.” Ian Fisher, Chief Country Officer, UK, Societe Generale

NEW BENEFITS FOR ATTENDEES

In addition to recruiters exhibiting on the day, this year’s show will also showcase a stimulating and informative seminar programme, championed by Stonewall to help candidates with key topics that challenge the LGBT community in the workplace.

We’ll also be increasing the capacity of our exceedingly popular one-to-one CV workshops, to help candidates get dedicated advice about their resumes from real-life recruiters.

We’ll also be implementing a student zone, specially for students and those about to graduate to help them get a foot in the door. Feedback shows that students in particular may feel a little intimidated by the size of the event, so we’re looking to provide them with specialised help, guidelines, CV workshops, networking facilitation, interview clinics, dedicated help, hints and tips to help them make the most of the show.

GRADUATE ATTENDANCE GUARANTEED

The Diversity Careers Show creates an invaluable forum for talented LGBT undergraduates and graduates to meet face-to-face with leading organisations committed to inclusion and diversity. Many universities’ and colleges’ careers services and LGBT societies have already signed up and free coach travel is provided from core universities to all shows. The shows also have significant presence on campus this year, through core on-site marketing activity and student ambassadors to drive further demand.

“Based on the success of the last two years, we are developing our offering to help candidates maximise the opportunities available at the show. Our focus is delivering quality, good calibre candidates and reaching out to students and grads from the very best institutes of higher education. The combined media strength of Square Peg media’s LGBT publications plus strategic partnerships with mainstream media and direct-to-candidate marketing will be absolutely invaluable in getting to these audiences. In addition, we’ve targeted candidates through innovative online and offline social networking activities, creating inroads with University Careers Services and building advocates and ambassadors on campus” - Uwern Jong, Head of Marketing at DCS and Managing Director of Boutique Marketing, the gay marketing and media agency.
