ALCAZAR PRESENTS DISCO DEFENDERS IN GOTHENBURG

Do you remember “Crying at the Discotheque” when Alcazar broke up?

Well they’re back for what promises to be the "shows of all shows" in Gothenburg early next year.

Alcazar, the Swedish Eurodance group, one of Sweden’s most successful international music groups and self-billed disco gods are back with DISCO DEFENDERS - a super show filled with glitz, glamour and disco classics from the past and present – expect some of the world’s most famous disco classics interspersed with Alcazar’s amazing hit parade – and all this at the fun-packed Liseberg, Gothenburg’s awesome amusement park. The show is a fun-filled celebration of humour, drama and mystery (all out camp) and the audience is invited to party along. Set in the park’s Rondo, this is a completely unique dinner-show concept – and at the end of the night, the Rondo will be transformed into an all-out disco-nightclub where punters can dance into the night.

The show premieres on 12th February 2015 and plays every Thursday and Saturday, running right through the Spring – perfect for disco-diva travellers looking for an authentically dancey Swedish disco experience.

Did you know that Sweden is the world’s 3rd largest exporter of music - just behind the USA and UK – which is just downright crazy considering its relatively small population.

What many people don’t realise that Sweden’s second city, Gothenburg is actually one of the world’s music capitals and at the very heart of Europe’s festival scene. Whilst you may have heard of Spain’s shout-it-out-loud, swimwear-clad Benacassim, or the more intimate, arty Soundwave in Crotia, those who are really in the know head to Gothenburg for the real sound of Europe – featuring music festivals like Way Out West and electronic music special Summerburst.

And everyone who is anyone in music plays in Gothenburg; this year’s Way Out West featured the almighty Scandinavian powerhouse collaboration that is Royksopp featuring Robyn… not to mention Outkast, Queens of the Stone Age, Janelle Monae, Iconopop and Neneh Cherry among a host of other huge homegrown and international names. It’s like the best gay Pride line-up ever dreamt up.

And speaking of gay Pride, the festival season always kicks off with West Pride in May, an intimate, community minded and seriously fun LGBTQ Pride festival, drawing gay people from all over the country. The festival is unique as it is deeply rooted in art and culture.

If electronic music is your thing, Summerburst this year featured Tiesto and David Guetta among some huge names in that world and usually, it is the same weekend as West Pride – cementing the last weekend in May as the gateway to the Swedish summer. And what more can you ask for? Long summer days, a breathtaking setting on the archipelago and gorgeous ‘Gothenburgers’ getting their suntans on, enjoying the sunshine; they’re an amazing looking bunch of people.

But what is it that makes this city so deeply rooted in music? In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, Phillip Ekström of the critically acclaimed band The Mary Onnetes summed it up perfectly. He said that Gothenburg is all about music, and music in Gothenburg is Art. The city sees music more like art that anywhere else, delivering huge variety and a sound that is truly unique, alternative and vivid.

GiFi (Guy-Fi), the app billed as the next-generation free gay social networking and dating app that aims to change forever the way gay men chat, network and meet-up has launched internationally after their initial success in the UK.

Kristian Tangen-Sorgendal, GiFi Community Manager says “This has been an exciting opportunity for us after the success of our UK trial. Since February we have had amazing feedback and support from the UK LGBT community, enabling us to continue developing the GiFi App and opening it up to the international market.”

Kristian continues “for many years now, other apps aimed at the LGBT community have focussed on either interests or particular traits; this is why GiFi was initially created, to bring the community together. Now you no longer have to countlessly contact members inquiring about ‘what are you looking for’: with the simple tap on a screen, you can select your mood whether this be drinks, networking, coffee or something else, and you can tap the filter option to sort up to 500 guys by your selected preference”.

Kristian finishes, “GiFi is now available to many users who have been waiting for this day in the following countries; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, UK and USA. Enjoy GiFi Guys!”

GiFi allows for you to engage with other members on a safe level.  Members can choose when to share their exact location with each other, while still obscuring your distance by up to 15 miles for everyone else to keep your privacy safe.

GiFi is built on a secure, massively scalable, real-time, geospatial mobile technology platform that seeks to address the scalability problems that plague current mobile social networking and dating apps such as Grindr. The resulting limited functionality, increasing app instability and data loss as user numbers increase combined with rapid battery drain can result in a frustrating user experience. This is especially true when considered in the context of the high-subscription prices charged by app providers.

The GiFi App allows members to create and stay up-to-date with the latest Groups, Places and Events happening around the LGBT Community. Members can join other groups, places and events; as well as review, attend and discuss in a social platform that hasn’t been as fully available in other apps.

GiFi is the cool brand in the gay technology arena who aims to be different in every and any way possible. Check out their awesome launch video highlighting how unique they are in this market.

GiFi has many useful features designed to help the gay and bisexual social and dating arena including advanced filtering, group chat, events, local interest groups and places to build a global community. This is also linked with three profile options! Members can chose whether to view nearby guys in either a gridview, a match view to choose members you’d like to meet, or an interactive map showing nearby places and other members (with their displayed locations protected by an adjustable safety distance).

GiFi is currently available for FREE on iPhone, iPad and Android. Download the revolution today and dare to be different with the app store’s hottest, most stable and secure sexy new app!

GiFi will also be looking for both new venues and new members of the week. Once you have downloaded the GiFi App, send the team a screenshot of your profile for your chance to be the latest GiFi Profile of the Week, and submit your Places recommendation to help support your favourite LGBT venue.

Check out GiFi on Facebook and Twitter!

GiFi™: Mobile dating that’s safe, secure and won’t frustrate the hell out of you

Do you care about your privacy and whether others can track where you are and what you’re doing at any given time? Here’s why you probably should delete your current mobile dating app profile immediately!

There’s been a lot of buzz in the community recently concerning privacy flaws in proximity based dating apps like Grindr. In addition to issues related to battery drain, data loss, and crashing, a fatal privacy bug was announced this week which led to the withdrawal of that app’s unique selling point: the ability to easily identify, locate and arrange a meet up with nearby guys you like.

When you use apps that utilize standard mobile location technology like GPS you may not realize it but the app constantly tells the provider of the service your exact location. In the absence of high-level security protocols, if you know where to look you can get all the profile and communication data about any user – and pin-point them to an exact location! It’s hard to stress how bad this is. Think about crazy ex’s, stalkers, thieves and other unscrupulous people who you’d like to avoid being able to know exactly where you are, 24 hours a day.

As it turns out, app vendors who overlook implementing the advanced computer science technology necessary to protect users make the mistake of leaving their servers effectively unprotected and public - the equivalent of leaving the front door of your house open so anybody can come in and poke around!

By cancelling the location services you can make it a little harder for hackers to get hold of your location, but all of your other information still is open to the public. We love these apps for being able to find nearby guys, but is it worth putting up with the constant crashes, lost information, rapid battery drain and now giving up privacy and personal safety – no thanks! So what exactly is the point of such apps now that the thing we love the most (finding nearby guys) isn’t working properly?

It just so happens that we at GiFi have solved these issues by licensing a bleeding-edge tech stack from GeoSpock Limited—a high-tech, computer science company out of Cambridge University run by PhD scientists—who wanted to help us in building an app the community could be proud of. We have just completed the Beta testing of its next generation gay social app GiFi and launched the app globally today.

For those of you who don’t know, GiFi has all of the features that market leading apps have and many more like instant identification of 500 guys at a time based on mood, preferences, profile match and location. Add to this the ability to message and chat (1-on-1 or group) and to create, join and follow groups, places and events. It is built for security and privacy sensitivity, with features such as masking your location with a user-configurable safety zone that is on by default, allowing you to control who knows where you are. The app has been rigorously tested over the past 6 months with ~10,000 beta testers resulting in the best performing, stable and functionally rich gay social app ever built. GiFi is available on iPhone , iPad  and Android .

IT'S PRIDE WEEK IN STOCKHOLM!

It’s Pride week here in Stockholm and we’re gearing up for Scandinavia’s biggest LGBTQI Pride Festival. But on a normal day, there’s so much to be proud of here. So we're thrilled to feature a few special Pride related nuggets from our proud city.

MEET SANDRA EHNE, PRESIDENT OF STOCKHOLM PRIDE

On the Stockholm Gay and Lesbian blog this month at gaylesbian.visitstockholm.com, you can get acquainted with Sandra Ehne, President of Stockholm Pride. Despite her being a busy bee this month, she took time out of her schedule to speak with us, and we asked her about everything from where she finds her inspiration, to what not to miss in Stockholm. Read the whole interview here. More about Stockholm Pride 2014.

MORGAN’S STOCKHOLM

“We hold hands and kiss just like everybody else who’s in love.” Morgan.

Rather than showing the classic image of Stockholm, ten Stockholmers have been asked by Stockholm Visitors Board as part of their mainstream campaign, to share their thoughts about the city they love. Neither attractions nor classic views are on display. Instead, ordinary Stockholmers openly discuss their love for Stockholm, their interests, their relationship to the city and how they live here.

The ten videos feature people like Jonas the geocacher, Madde the skateboarder, Sam the runner, Öivind the grandfather, and Otilia, who found love on the subway. But our favourite here is Morgan’s story – a gay man who believes Stockholm is the greatest gay city on earth and recently married his husband on a church on Södermalm.  The videos conclude with the hashtag #mystockholm and the pay-off “What’s yours?”.

View Morgan’s story at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ch7kPt373w

PROUD TO EAT

One other thing we’re really proud of here in Stockholm is our food. Stockholm has experienced a culinary boom the last couple of years. Now everything, it seems, evolves around food. New venues are opening one after another. A block or two away from the tourist track you will find some of the most interesting places in town right now. Here are our tips!

Vigårda

Vigårda is a fast food restaurant located in the shopping center Mood. We like the interior as much as the food! It’s a stylish, affordable, fast food BBQ restaurant with delicious food. Vigårda is – fast food as we like it! http://vigarda.se/

Brasserie Le Rouge

There’s no Swedish minimalism at this place. Visiting the restaurant Le Rouge is like stepping into French fin-de-siecle. Classic French and Italian composed menus are served here, and tradition is more important than trendiness. Don’t miss the bar next door, Le Bar Rouge, which has quickly become one of Stockholm’s most popular hang-outs! http://lerouge.se/

Orangeriet

This convivial cocktail bar and outdoor cafe is located on Norr Mälarstrand seafront. The bartenders are topnotch, and the stylish décor is reminiscent of English gardens. The high level of ambition and attention to detail are familiar from Melker Andersson’s other restaurants. http://orangerietbar.se/

SLEEP NO MORE

To celebrate Stockholm Pride 2014 (28 July to 2 August) the Berns is hosting its own epic party. Packed with international and local acts from the world’s LGBT scene, Berns’ celebrations get going as soon as ‘The Queen of Europe’, Conchita Wurst, has opened Pride - at Östermalms IP AKA Pride Park on Wednesday, 30 July - with revellers heading to the hotel’s newly-launched gay club night, ‘Glory’.

Then, on Saturday, the real party starts. Kick off an unforgettable evening at Berns’ chandeliered concert hall, Stora Salongen, which promises a wild and insanely-fun night of cutting-edge music and unforgettable atmosphere - courtesy of London-based GutterSlut - featuring renowned DJs such as Per QX, Nic Fisher and Ralf Obergfell. UK DJ club collective,Horse Meat Disco, will also be pumping out exciting tracks in the hotel’s Spegelsalen, or pop downstairs to Berns’ own basement nightclub, Gallery 2.35:1 (open for one night in the summer only), for a live set from resident DJ Staffan Lindberg and DJ Boris -  a popular fixture of Berlin club life.
